Paperwork for New Members

Welcome

You have joined the oldest senior scout program offered in Scouting B.S.A.  Sea Scouting has been around in the U.S. since 1912.  You are entering an adventure that very few people your age will undertake.  You will gain confidence with every voyage you take.  It's not easy, because there are essential skills you need to learn to become a useful crew member.  Sometimes you need to demonstrate those skills in a stressful situation, and incorrect action could be harmful for yourself or others.

Advancement Paperwork

Rank advancement based on seamanship knowledge is essential.  A scout learns the skill and then the scout is tested.  Progress on advancement is measured by performing the skill for a skilled youth or adult and having the tester put their initials in your Qualification Book.

Your Qualification Book will be issued to you when you formally join the ship.

You can focus on what is needed for Apprentice rank very easily by using your School of the Boat pamphlet for studying the terms and skills before you have to perform a test.

Annual Medical Forms

Be sure to submit completed health forms to the Skipper as soon as possible.  Parts A and B should be submitted with your membership application.  Part C requires a medical examination by your doctor and is needed before you take the summer long cruise or other extended high adventure experience.
